First Day of School

Tomorrow is my first day of school. Again. I was supposed to spend today setting up my desk, but the gods have conspired against me; Brother 1 and wife invited me up to SLC for dinner, and there simply won't be time to work on the desk. So instead of having a desk, I have a pile of wood and parts and instructions on my floor. We share internet with our neighbors, who transmit the wireless signal from their apartment. I like to do homework/use the internet in the living room---I always have---but the signal there is weak. Today it isn't working at all from the living room, so I'm sitting on the floor where my desk will one day stand (tomorrow?) and where the signal is strongest.

I have my outfit all picked out for tomorrow. The problem is that I like it so much that I wore it today to church. I do plan on doing laundry later today (when I get home from SLC?) so it'll be clean at least. The outfit is, in fact, so great that I think I'll take a picture of it and post it. It was always family tradition, anyway, to have pictures taken on the first day of school.

I'm excited. I always am excited to start a new semester. I went online today to copy down my class names and rooms---the school's system is always overloaded on the first day of school and anyone who has saved it to the last minute to write down their classrooms suffers. Tomorrow, I start with French linguistics at 8:00 with a professor who taught me French at 8:00 in 1999, my freshman year. And here I thought that schooling was supposed to be linear instead of cyclical. I'll go from French to substantive editing to Brit lit: Romantic authors. I have a great schedule this year---I have classes every day between 8:00 and 11:00, and work from 11:30 to 3:30.

"Darling, je vous aime beaucoup..."

Strangely, I know only two things in French: The American Pledge of Allegiance (go figure) and "Rain, Rain, Go Away." Apparently, I do the latter with a Spanish accent.

However, I'll be more than glad to take your French class if you want to switch me with Latin. I feel better prepared for French.

With the new schedules we will become two editors that pass in the mid-morning. Hope I see you every once in a while!

Good luck at school! I'd say maybe I'd see you in a class or something, but one of my life goals is to never learn French, so....

Hey, I speak Spanish with a Japanese accent!

I love the first day of school, too. Mostly because the house is quiet and I'm alone. As it will be in another twenty minutes.

Ah, sweet mystery of life, at last I found you . . .

Oooh. I can't wait to see the Outfit. You'll be delighted to know that I have lunch here waiting for you. It's not super amazing, but it's been a long weekend. I'll work up to amazingness gradually. It is, at least, quite healthy.

Want to hear all about how the classes went.

I thought you might like to know that Master Fob has declared you the center of the universe. Quite the honor I would think.

And all this time I thought that Tolkien Boy was the center of the universe because he knew all these people that I knew! But it makes so much more sense now to find out that I, in fact, am the center of the universe and he knew people whom I knew. Now I can love ME!

Ohhh, I miss first days of school. I don't think I'll ever have another one. Do night classes count?

On the first day of my new job, my roommate gave me this killer LOTR lunch box with my fake boyfriend Viggo on the front. Inside were some awesome school supplies. My new boss saw it one time and said she thought it was "precious." I don't think she caught the irony of using that particular adjective.

Sounds like you have a lot in common with this guy, if you're still looking around.
