ABOUT US

I started this blog in 2005 when I was a student at Brigham Young University. I chose the name "Cicada Song" because I'd recently experienced the great Brood X seventeen-year cicada phenomenon of the East Coast while living in Maryland with my parents. There is a certain type of cicada that only makes its appearance every 17 years, and when it comes, it pretty much takes over the entire East Coast. They are known for their very loud song, and while many people find this invasion... well, invasive, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Having become well acquainted with these cicadas, I thought it was funny that they seemed to represent my stage of life at the time. I was single and looking for love, and these cicadas were singing to each other constantly, to find one another and pair off. So the idea of "Cicada Song" was born.

I had no idea that it would literally be my blog that would get me a husband! In 2007 I was living with my brother and working in Salt Lake City. Murray, a man totally unknown to me, happened to see a link to "Cicada Song" on a blog he was reading. Intrigued, he clicked over and started reading all about my life. He realized that I had a lot of the characteristics he was looking for. He went out on a limb and used my anonymous email address (he was the first one to ever do so!) to contact me and was fairly direct in letting me know that he'd be interested in meeting me.

I looked him up on the Utah Sex Offenders list and he wasn't there. Phew. I arranged with a couple of friends to meet him for a first date in a public place. After the first date, I was definitely interested. After the second date, a few days later, I knew that he was The One.

We were married six months after we met (almost to the day) at the end of 2007.

Since then we've added one more of us to the mix, little Gulliver, who was born in January 2009 and who lights up our lives.

Now we're expecting a little girl in March 2010.

I keep this blog anonymous (believe it or not, Cicada, Murray, and Gulliver are NOT our real names) because my name is fairly unique and I would rather not every person who googles my name to be able to read every detail about my life for the past several years.
