Pro-Creating

Murray and I are creative people. We're always creating. We really support creative endeavors, too. In fact, I might even say that we are pro-creating. Even when we're not planning on being creative, it just . . . happens. We can't help it.

Yep, it's true. Well, I mean, not entirely. I stole this ultrasound from Stanclax. Our baby (just one that we know of) is currently only about this big:

| - - |

But it's also supposed to double in size this week, so if you're not reading this post in a timely manner, it might already be this big:

| - - - |

It's early to be telling people, I know. And I would have kept it a secret a little longer, only I told one of my carpoolers why I was leaving our carpool (I don't know how my body's going to behave over the next little while and I don't want to be stranded at work when I should really go home and barf and sleep). And then I went to a work baby shower on Friday and this carpooler's boss made my announcement for me to every single woman in my department. So really, what's the point of keeping it in any longer?

And now, before I leave you to your congratulating of me, I have to say that I've been surprised by the number of people who have cited miscarriage statistics to me when they found out that I'm pregnant. As if I didn't start worrying about miscarriage the moment I found out that some serious cell division was taking place in my uterus. Why do people find it necessary? Is it going to prepare me more? Was I not already aware of the statistics? I may point out that statistically speaking, one is more than twice as likely to get a divorce as one is to have a miscarriage. But you won't find me, next time a friend announces her marriage to me, telling her, "Congratulations! Now, just so that you know, often times, the first one doesn't stick."

For some reason, people say all kinds of horrible things to you when you are pregnant. Wait until you're nearly done being pregnant and everyone starts telling you all the horrible delivery stories. That will be so fun for you.

Then they all start point out all the ways you are a bad parent. So it really never ends.

However, you and Murray will make Excellent Parents and that's why you have a surprise little one knocking on your door already. He/she was determined to grab the good parents before someone else got the chance. Congrats!!

P.S. the feeling-sick is a good sign! It means your hormone levels are going up the way they should.

Congratulations! Was the baby the cause of your recent illnesses?

One moment I am creating art with you and the other, this future bundle of joy....

Here's hoping he/she doesn't turn out to look like a Picasso, well his cubist stuff anyway.

Really good point about miscarriage comments. I'd never thought of it that way.

By the way, if there comes a point when you've heard too many scary labor and delivery stories, come talk to me. My first birth was satisfying, rewarding, and empowering, and I imagine this imminent one will be too.

Also, I agree with jeri about this little one nabbing the good parents. :)

I'm so happy for you both! No statistics from me (well, other than reading the What to Expect books is guaranteed 100% to send you into a panic vs. not reading them at all.)

Congratulations to you, Murray, and your little tadpole. Except knitted gifts from me, because you'll be getting them!

Congratulations! Definitely skip the What to Expect books. They're just lame. If you want to see something truly scary, pick up a copy of Spiritual Midwifery. Mr. Fob calls it the "naked hippie" book.

(PS--In case my mom is reading, I love Spiritual Midwifery and I'm a better person for having been born at home)

The nerve of some people. It is amazing what people say to you when you are pregnant...

You are so creative! When my dad found out my sis was inpregneto, he cited all the miscarriage info as well. I think he was just trying to make her feel ok if it didn't go through, but it was a total downer. So I will say this, pregnant women only need to eat 300more calories a day. Do what you want with that info.

I freaked out a bit when I saw the twins picture, too. I guess I need to learn to read a little more closely.

Congratulations.

I really should check your blog more often. Seems like the last time I read your blog I congratulated you on your marriage. Or was it the engagement?

CONGRATULATIONS!

That is so exciting. And never mind those naysayers, people can be so lame.

And just think, now you can avoid the awkward looks and questions far far-too-nosy people in your wards. For the first 2 years of my marriage I had the most RANDOM people come up to me, ask me about when I planned on having children, then give me some jab about how it is my 'duty' to procreate (just in case I wasn't aware, or something). The fact that both the Hubster and I are students didn't seem to factor in to the whole baby issue. haha

I hope they stop with the statistics for you though... I think it's wonnnnderful. And if you want to tell people, you should! YAY!

Congrats! Pregnancy will be the ride of your life. I'm loving every second of it. Mostly. I started telling people I wasn't a statistic when they started quoting stats to me.

Hopefully your morning sickness will be like mine and be no more than annoying. I never barfed and I was only sick for a few weeks. You can look at my pregnancy blog to see what I was feeling when I was at the same point you were.

I'm so excited for you! When is your first appointment with the doctor?

Congratulations!! That's so exciting, and the next 9 months will be one big adventure (before the really big adventure starts, that is). I highly recommend taking a "babymoon" vacation - just be sure to check out the restrictions on travel after x weeks of pregnancy.

I loved Googling my baby's progress each week - one of my favorite sites is here

P.S. I'm the Kristi from your last class, and am in Murray's Wednesday class. Just so you know. :)

Wow, congrats, Cicada! :D I agree with Anonymous, I think last time I was on your blog, I was congratulating you on your wedding or engagement. That seems to have happened fast! (But then, time also seems to be passing pretty quickly lately.)

Just catching up on your blog and found your exciting news. Congratulations! I am also pregnant and found this great ticker. Don't know if you're into that, but they're super cute.
